Six Golf Courses for Mexican Tourism

Experts in this sport emphasize that a golf destination must have a variety and concentration of courses, a good climate, a complementary offer, tourist infrastructure, communications and access, security, beauty of the surroundings and ease of tour operation.

In Forbes magazine, just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the famous Mexican golf course architect, Agustín Pizá, recommended the following as some "unmissable" places to play.

TWIN DOLPHIN CLUB

Designed by Fred Couples, Augusta Masters champion and member of the Golf Hall of Fame, this 19-hole golf course is unique in the world. According to its website, it is totally integrated with the impressive desert landscape that surrounds it, has local flora, and offers views of the Sea of Cortez from every hole.

EL TIGRE

It was included in the Top 10 best golf courses in the country in Golf Guide Magazine & Golf in Mexico Magazine. Its website indicates that it is a 7,239-yard masterpiece designed by the team of Von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, designers of more than 200 of the best golf courses in the world.

QUERENCIA

Its 18 holes cover more than 300 acres, among streams and cool, arid plateaus. Its website specifies that it is a private golf course and residential community.

QUIVIRA

Its dazzling 7,085-yard layout made Golf Digest's elite list of the "100 Best Golf Courses in the World". Golf Magazine named it the "Best New International Golf Course" in 2014, while Golf Inc. recognized it as the "Development of the Year" when it opened.

LAS PAROTAS

Huatulco's premier golf course at Las Parotas is an 18hole redesign by the team of Agustin Pizá. Their website indicates that each hole has been designed around existing trees with sustainability as the main design objective. More than a golf course, it is a slice of Mother Nature.

EL CAMALEON MAYAKOBA

Located near the vibrant downtown of Playa del Carmen, the 18hole golf course arches amidst lush vegetation, and along the seashore, offering challenging landscapes and breathtaking views. Each year it hosts PGA professional golf tournaments, such as the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which offers the highest prize money among all golf tournaments in Latin America.

The states of Mexico, Jalisco, Quintana Roo, Baja California Sur and Guerrero, concentrate the largest amount of land, 65% of which is private and 35% tourist land
